The Opportunity to Multiply

God is Calling Us to Sow and Trust Him for the Harvest

God has called us as individuals, couples, families, and a church to RUN this race that Jesus has given us!  We know with certainty that God has enabled us to RUN well, especially if that means EXERTING ourselves or spending our strength and resources to attain unto the mission He has designed for us!  RUNNING for COLG looks like following the Holy Ghost as He leads us to fulfill all of the facets of this great vision He has left to us.

Part of that great vision is a call to sow people and ministry, and to plant churches across Central Kentucky and beyond!  Sowing and planting takes work and must be done at God’s direction, and in His timing.  There are moments in life when, in our rational minds, it just doesn’t seem like the right time to sow into something.  It might be sowing money into a cause, or sowing faith into an impossible situation, or even sowing effort and time into something that by our estimation is beyond repair.  Just because sowing is adverse and doesn’t make sense to us, doesn’t mean that it’s not God leading us to sow!  If we’ve learned anything in this recent season, it’s that God’s providence is at work, even when we believe otherwise.

When we first started talking about planting a COLG-type church in Richmond in the Fall of 2024, I had my hesitations. My linear, rational brain kicked into logistics mode, which only highlighted the monumental effort of faith it would require to sow as God said.  Through prayer, discussion, and even unwittingly, my own preaching, God made it clear that this was not only part of COLG’s race meant to be accomplished years from now, but it was also part of our race for RIGHT NOW. In fact, it was during these very conversations that we felt led to move up the pastoral transition vote—something that, in hindsight, was divinely timed just before my dad’s passing. And even then, as we talked and prayed, my dad affirmed it, saying, “Sounds like the Lord, let’s do this.”

The call to sow, to engage in this Kingdom-opportunity, became louder and clearer! As God gave us the invitation to RUN, His providence became more evident.  Church, we are not called to stand still! We are called to RUN—to exert ourselves, to spend our strength in the PURSUIT of the race God has given us!

Paul’s Call to the Corinthian Church

In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul is doing something very similar to what we’re experiencing at COLG. He was calling on the church in Corinth to step up, to be part of something bigger than themselves. To sacrifice and trust that the Lord could sustain and multiply! The Jewish Christians in Jerusalem were suffering the long-term effects of famine, and Paul had previously tried to organize an offering from the Gentile churches—not just as a financial blessing but as a demonstration of unity. The first time around, Corinth didn’t rise to the occasion. This time, Paul is urging them again, reminding them of the opportunity before them—an OPPORTUNITY TO MULTIPLY.

Like the Corinthian church, COLG has been called to multiply—to plant churches, to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and advance the Kingdom of God in Central Kentucky. We have tried before, and it didn’t go as we had hoped. But that doesn’t change the fact that the call remains. The need still exists! There are thousands of unchurched people in Winchester, Richmond, and the surrounding communities who need what God has put within us!  They need to see the examples, hear the testimonies, and have the same encounters with Jesus that we have grown so accustomed to!

God is the Supplier of the Seed

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:10:

“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Who supplies the seed? God does! God doesn’t just give us what we need to sustain ourselves—He gives us extra seed to sow! He fully equips us both to be sustained and to sow into the Kingdom. And now, that seed must be planted elsewhere—into good ground, into a community PRIMED to receive it.

God is the Choreographer of Multiplication

The word supply here comes from the Greek word choregeo, which means “to be a dance leader.” God is the choreographer. He is leading the way, orchestrating the multiplication of what we sow.  He Himself is organizing our supply lines and moving everything into place not only to sow this great team of people and see their impact multiply, but also to replenish and multiply to us what we are sowing!

And why does God multiply our seed? So that we can sow even more! God knows exactly where the seed needs to go, how it can grow, and how it will produce an abundant harvest!  He knows WHO needs it and what it will take to transform them!

Sowing Leads to Harvest, and Harvest Leads to Thanksgiving

Paul continues in 2 Corinthians 9:11-12:

“You will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.”

When we sow into God’s work, He enriches us in every area. So often, Christians LIMIT God’s blessing to that of only money. We sow $20 here or $200 there, hoping God will graciously multiply it back to us.  To be fair, sometimes He does just that! However, many times, the Lord in return enriches us in other areas of our lives. Often, in areas we don’t expect.  Maybe my offering is more for my marriage than it is for my wallet?  Maybe my time given is about God multiplying and maximizing my relationships within my family, instead of giving me a mansion or a sports car.

We may not always know exactly how God will bless us in return, but we can trust that He will bless us. And when He does, it will stir up gratitude in our hearts and in the hearts of others!

We Are Being Asked to Sow—And Trust God with the Increase

This is not about finances alone. This is about sowing into the Kingdom of God. It’s about planting churches, investing in people, and stepping out in faith even when it doesn’t seem logical. God has given us the opportunity to multiply. And now, it’s time to trust Him with the increase. God always honors His Word, even above His name.  If He has instructed us to do this, we can TRUST that it is not only for our good, but it is because GOD HIMSELF has lined up something else for us that we may have previously thought impossible!

Are you ready to sow? Are you ready to trust God with the harvest? Are you willing to pray over Richmond, KY what we have been praying over Winchester for years?  That God would WIN THE CITY OF RICHMOND AND WIN THE CITY OF WINCHESTER! Bless Pastors Brandon and Lauren and their team as they endeavor to accomplish this beautiful work of bringing the Kingdom to the lost!  I count it a great blessing to call Brandon my BROTHER; of the same spiritual heritage!  I’m excited to see what God will do in Richmond through Living God Church, but I’m just as excited to see what God has in store for COLG in Winchester!

If you’ve been waiting on God to bring the increase in your life, declare it today. Trust Him to enrich you in all things. Because at the end of the day, it’s His seed, His harvest, and His Kingdom. And we are simply called to sow; to engage in the opportunity before us—THE OPPORTUNITY TO MULTIPLY.
